OUTCOME

Students presented a paper during the “CUCEK tech-fest” stating the current approaches being used to look for a sustainable solution to the issue. Also, a small stall demonstration was done to generate awareness and to collect ideas from local people.

METHOD/EXTENT

Civil Survey: A group of 20 final year civil engineering students performed a civil survey to collect construction based dimensional data.Various types of equipment like theodolite and others were used to do a topographical survey to collect the data for depth, width, and quantity of water flowing through the canals.

Household Survey: The purpose was to collect information on aspects such as household discharge, land availability, water consumption in the canal shed of the pilot area. The information and data collection for both the surveys was done completely via smart phone application ODK Collect.

PURPOSE

A Civil Survey was conducted from 12 – 14 January ’18, by local civil engineering students of CUSEK led by their principal Dr. Sunilkumar N.

There were two types of surveys conducted-

  • to assess the civil aspects of canal
  • to get socio-economic data especially waste management practices at household level in the pilot area.
